Join the Friends of Fort McHenry for a private reception as they celebrate Defenders Day at the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. The Star Spangled Spectacular runs from 5-9 PM and will be honoring Admiral John C. Harvey, Jr. Commander US Fleet Forces Command with the presentation of the Francis Scott Key Award. Sponsors, members and guests will enjoy music, and fireworks as well as a lavish buffet dinner and drinks provided by Atlantic Caterers, Clipper City Brewing Co., and other local establishments.

The National MDA Coordination Office (Formerly OGMSA) is pleased to announce the third annual Global Maritime Information Sharing Symposium (GMISS) to be held at the Baltimore Hilton, on September 14-16th 2010. With this year's theme, "Charting the Course for MDA," NMCO is expecting over 250 participants from the maritime community of interest to participate in helping the US federal government hone their message to ensure safety, security, commerce and environmental protection in the maritime domain. The overwhelmingly positive response received from last year's GMISS offers the opportunity to align all interested parties on improving MDA.  Your attendance would ensure that diverse viewpoints and opinions are heard and acted upon.  Our Director, Mr. Gary Seffel, extends this invitation to all who are interested in maritime commerce and safety and looks forward to seeing you all in September. Baltimore's historic inner harbor will be the backdrop for the Ninth Maritime Heritage Conference being held at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore, overlooking USS Constellation in her home berth. The conference theme is “The Maritime Nexus: re-connecting Landsmen with Their Seagoing Heritage”.

 

Hosted by Historic Ships in Baltimore, the Naval Historical Foundation, the National Maritime Historical Society (Sea History Magazine) and the Historic Naval Ships Association this conference brings together individuals from the numerous naval, military, and maritime history, education and preservation communities to share information and exchange ideas about issues affecting the broader community.  Local hosts include the Maryland Historical Society, Fort McHenry National Monument, Sail Baltimore, and the Baltimore National Heritage Area. Attendance by and support from the local Port Community is welcomed and encouraged.

Events for the 21st Annual “Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race” will begin at 1 PM on Sunday the 10th with Dinghy race fundraiser in Fells Point and pick up again with the “Schooners & Crooners” concert on the Broadway Pier. Noon on Wednesday the 13th finds all the Schooners docked in Fells Point and at 5 PM that day, the parade of sail begins.
